Visit Ribe - The Oldest town in Denmark

With its outstanding status as Denmark's oldest and best preserved town, Ribe offers its guests a unique atmosphere.

There are very few places in Denmark where it is possible to see an entire medieval town centre with old half-timbered houses and cobblestone streets.

The eye is continually caught by new impressions; the cathedral rises at the end of the street at one moment, and at the next there is an unexpected glimpse of flat salt meadows with grazing cattle.
Its details also make Ribe quite special: half-timbered houses with finely carved wood-work, doors with artistic adornments, street lamps that great-grandmother knew, and so on.

The town is full of relics from bygone days, but in no way is it a museum.
Energetic young people make sure that there is life under the red-tiled roofs and in summer the atmosphere in the town square is almost Mediterranean.

Ribe is a hive of activity all year round. Visit the many museums and churches, take an excursion to the Tidal Flats or Mandø where nature shows her strength. Visit a multitude of inviting shops - and perhaps work up an appetite for a delicious meal in one of the many restaurants and cafés.
