Wadden Sea National Park
Esbjerg is located right by the Wadden Sea National Park, one of the world’s most unique tidal areas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you can take guided tours and experience the fascinating Wadden Sea, where you can hunt for oysters, experience the rich bird population or go on a seal safari. During the season you can also experience the spectacular Black Sun phenomenon, where thousands of starlings create beautiful formations in the sky at sunset.

Fanø - the idyllic island
Just a short ferry ride from Esbjerg is the charming island of Fanø. The island is known for its miles of sandy beaches, quaint villages and rich wildlife. Here you can enjoy relaxing walks by the North Sea, see the many seals basking on the sandbanks or try your hand at windsurfing. Fanø is also known for its traditional Fanø houses and the annual kite festival, which attracts visitors from near and far.

Ribe - Denmark's oldest city
A short drive from Esbjerg is the historic town of Ribe, the oldest town in Denmark. Here you can explore the charming cobbled streets and experience the well-preserved medieval atmosphere. Visit Ribe Cathedral, where you can get a fantastic view of the city and the surrounding countryside from the tower. At Ribe VikingeCenter you can step back in time and get an exciting insight into the life of the Vikings through activities and living history – an experience for the whole family.

Esbjerg - art, culture and city life
Esbjerg offers a rich cultural life and exciting sights. One of the most iconic is the monumental artwork Man by the Sea, four white sculptures looking out over the sea. The city also has an exciting selection of museums, such as the Fisheries and Maritime Museum, where you can learn about the local fishing culture, or Esbjerg Art Museum, which offers both classic and modern art.
Nature experiences and activities
The area around Esbjerg is ideal for an active vacation. The west coast offers great opportunities for water sports such as kitesurfing, windsurfing and kayaking. For those who prefer to stay on solid ground, there are plenty of hiking and cycling routes that take you through scenic areas along the coast and inland. Blåvand, with its wide beach and impressive lighthouse, is also a short drive away and a popular excursion destination.
